Oceanco Acquired by Gabe Newell

Dutch superyacht builder Oceanco has entered a bold new chapter with Gabe Newell, co‑founder of Valve and creator of Steam, becoming its new owner and shareholder  .For the past 15 years, Oceanco has been led by the Barwani family, delivering high‑profile yachts like Kaos, Bravo Eugenia, Black Pearl and Koru. They will now step back while retaining their presence in yachting through Turquoise Yachts.

According to Oceanco, “This is not about buying a yacht company,but plugging into a team,and exploring what kind of future they can create when nothing holds them back.” Newell is described as a “hands‑on visionary who respects the sea… the people who make it possible.” His focus is collaboration, innovation, and continuity,not restructuring.

Newell, estimated to have a $9.5 billion net worth, reportedly already owns several yachts,including Rocinante, Draak, and Wingman,and is working on a state‑of‑the‑art 110 m explorer yacht known internally as “Project Y722,” with delivery planned in 2025 and a price tag of $350–400 million.
